Why do I like restoring books?
Because customers bring me something which is precious to them (even if it has no intrinsic monetary value) and they are sad because it is in need of repair. We chat about their book, decide what needs to be done and then I get to work.
Later they come back to collect it and see their beloved book in good condition, ready to be used and they are SOOOOO happy! This is particularly true for Bibles, where people have made notes, highlighted, underlined and generally put their souls on to the pages!
Yes, I do appreciate the money I am paid for doing this work but my REAL reward is the happiness I bring into the lives of my customers and the feeling that I have done something worthwhile - even if only in my small way - on this earth!
